Catch up from March-December 2014

Ok, I'm going to update based on memory (which is not very good) and pictures. Then I'm resolving to be better so I don't forget my whole life and the fun (and sometimes not so fun) things kids do and say.
At the end of March we went to San Diego for a vacation. The boys LOVED it and Owen has asked, almost everyday, if we can go back again. Our hotel wasn't the best but it did have a door that separated the bedroom from the living area, which made putting Grayson to bed easier and a little fridge, which made eating cheaper. Oh but I threw my back out the week before we left and the terribly hard bed made it worse, which sucked. We like to keep things pretty relaxed so we don't need a vacation from our vacation when we get back. So we did some walking and shopping in Old Town when we got there, which was Andy's favorite place. One day we went to the San Diego temple and walked around just to show the boys. Then we went to the Mormon Battalion sight. One of our neighbors was serving her mission there but we just missed her. We loved there little tour and story of the Mormon Battalion, but I think Owen's favorite parts was panning for gold and the super slow, old elevator that went from the upper look out to the main floor.
The next day we went to Sea World. The boys were in Heaven. We tried to hit a bunch of shows but after the first couple they were pretty well done with it. They loved Shamoo. We sat up front and center so we did get splashed. Owen didn't mind so much but Grayson bawled when he got wet. I think Owen also really liked the shark area and dolphins. Oh and he talks frequently about petting the sting rays and how one tried to eat Grayson's hand (people were feeding them so it thought we had food).
The day third day we went to Coronado Island to the beach. The weather was unfortunately only in the 60's so it was super cold to go in the water...and even just sitting in the sand, which Grayson was not a fan of, but we still had fun. It's a cute and quaint little place.
The last day we just found a fun little park and a boardwalk to go play around and walk thru. We spent one night swimming in the pool and going between the hot tub and pool...it was freezing but the boys screamed when we said it was time to go. They didn't care that they were turning blue. Such a fun family vacation. And the first with just the four of us...no extended family.

In April we went to baby animal days, which we will never do again because we paid to see pretty much all the same animals that we see all the time at Grandma Flygare's. We really just wanted to see the baby bears but the line was like a 2 hour wait and it was cold and rainy and we were not standing there. We figured we'd just go to the zoo to see bears. We also dyed eggs and celebrated Easter. It is one of Owen's favorite holidays (ok, they are all his favorite) and he asks all the time when Easter is coming. Also, for record sake I chopped my hair off to my collar bone. It was sad, but kind of a fun change...but I still miss my long hair most days.

May and June was spent outside a lot and waiting for our two nests of robin eggs to hatch.  The boys wanted to check on them everyday. Oh and Grayson potty trained himself at 21-ish months old! It was amazing. I would ask him every once in a while if he wanted to sit on the potty but not really pushing anything. Then one morning I took his diaper off and out of laziness I didn't put a new one on. A little bit later I heard him yelling in the bathroom. I was too late...he'd peed on the floor because he couldn't get the lid up. So I just left it up and a little while later I heard him going on the potty! We had few accidents after that! It was one of my greatest parenting moments! I'd heard stories of kids doing it, but figured it was few and far between. I think he just watched his big brother and figured he could do it too. We still put diapers on at night but even then a lot of mornings he wakes up dry.

July was hot and busy and fun. We had the Hillyard family reunion and celebrated the 4th of July. This was the first year we went and sat close with the boys. Grayson liked it at first and kept saying, "wuz that noise mommy" at every boom and car or truck that drove by. Owen loved them but said it was loud. Of course we did a lot of water sliding at the Flygare hill. We also spent a day at Lagoon with both Grandma Flygare, Stacee, Daxon, Grandma Kano, Monica, Kylee, and Madi. Owen LOVED the whole day and all the rides. Even the big ones he was tall enough for. Grayson not so much. I took him on one kids roller coaster and he cried and yelled "NO NO NO NO. STOP" the whole time. Owen went with my mom for part of the time and loved going on the rides with her or having her watch him. We also celebrated Owen's FOURTH birthday doing the usual waterslide party. Holy cow! How did he get that old? But that deserves a post of its own to celebrate my first born.

August we took a trip to the Dinosaur Park in Ogden with Stacee and Daxon. The boys loved it and ask regularly if we can go back. The also reopened the newly remodeled Ogden Temple so we went with the Flygare's and took the boys to the open house. Owen LOVED going thru the temple. We ended carrying Grayson the whole time because he was tired. Then we celebrated Grayson's 2nd birthday with family at the Willow Park Zoo. Cousin Taryl made a super cute tractor cake for him.

The most exciting thing in September was that Andy and I went to see Katy Perry in concert! It was so fun to go to. It was quite the production. My only complaint was that it was SOOO long because the had 2 openers that played for half hour with half hour of nothing in between each before Katy came out and performed another 2 hours. Although the production was elaborate, our favorite part was when she played acoustic because you could actually hear her voice and not just the digital recordings and music. Oh we also went to Peach Days...over-rated at this age. We let the boys go on a few blow up slides and then went and saw a huge tank which the boys thought was pretty cool and that was about it. And we picked lots of raspberries and tomatoes from the garden.

October we did lots of fun family activities. We went on a little hike up the canyon to Stokes Nature Center. Owen LOVES exploring. He kept saying how it was the best adventure and how amazing it was. They loved running and throwing rocks into the river. On the way back down Grayson ran and ran and ran. I could barely keep up with him. We also sent a night at the Fun Park and went bowling. We went with the Flygare's to the corn maze and activities out at the American West Heritage center. Owen rode on a pony and we road the train around which they loved. We walked around the corn maze for about 3 minutes then walked back out because Owen kept running off and hiding and we were afraid we'd seriously lose him. And then we had Halloween. Owen was Batman and Gray was a lion. So cute. Owen LOVED trick or treating this year. We went around the whole subdivision by our house. Only problem was that Gray got tired and was crying and wanted held so I took him home. He fell asleep within a few minutes of me picking him up and I had to walk holding his dead weight with a bulky costume a good half mile. I though my arms were going to fall off! Owen was funny when we would say, "oh there's batman" and he'd say "it's just me, Owen...I'm in a costume."

November we took the boys to see Big Hero 6 in the theater. They thought it was long but really liked the movie and did really well sitting thru it and ask frequently when we can go again to the movies. We had thanksgiving with the Flygare's this year. Nothing big. Just us, Grandma and Grandpa and Stacee and Dax. Pretty much like any other day visiting the Flygare's only with a little more food. Plus the day before we went up the mountains and cut down Christmas trees. There was so much snow that we would sink down to our knees with every step, which made searching for the perfect one hard work. Owen loved it and was light enough that he could just crawl across the top.
Andy and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary with dinner at El Toro and a movie. Low-key but I love just being with that man.

December was eventful yet we didn't do much. At the first of the month, December 7th, we found out I was pregnant so that was super exciting, but I also got super sick almost immediately which left us stuck at home all the time. We celebrated Christmas which was amazing this year because both of the boys were so psyched for at least a month before. Owen only wanted an accordion, which Santa came thru on. Plus many other gifts. I think his favorites were that, his scooter, monster feet slippers and the giga ball. He ripped thru his presents so fast this year. Opening one after another as fast as he could. Grayson didn't so much but he really liked his gifts. He got tiger feet slippers a train set and I think those were his tops. Andy super-surprised me with a Vitamix Blender! I did not think that was going to happen but I was so excited. My parents and Jill stayed the night so they could watch the boys and of course the Flygare's came over, then in the afternoon we went to the Flygare's for dinner and more presents. And that sums up the year!
