Holland's birth story is quite an exciting one. I was seeing the doctor weekly and at about 4 weeks from my due date he
told me I was dilated to a 3 and 80% effaced. He said there was no way I
was going to make it to my due date and he'd wait for me to come in.
The next week I was 4 and 80% and he said the same thing. I was doing
everything to put myself into labor. Exercise, mow the lawn, cleaning
house, carrying the boys. She was digging into my ribs and they killed
and I couldn't ever get comfortable. That week passed and the next
appointment I was still the same and he said I should have her any day. I
told him to stop saying that and he laughed and said "Ok, see ya in 3
weeks." Andy kept telling her that she needed to stay in, then he said,
"Ok, you can come on the 10th." Apparently this girl listens to her dads
word. On Sunday the 9th we went to church and then to Brigham for a
family dinner at the Stewart's. I was having contractions pretty
regularly but not anything harder than I'd had the rest of my pregnancy.
So we went home and got the kids to bed and went to bed myself. Then at
1:25 A.M. Monday the 10th I was jolted awake by a hard contraction. I
went to the bathroom and in the process had 2 more contractions. I was
timing and they were immediately about 2-3 minutes apart and HARD. I
woke Andy and told him to call his mom. It seemed like she took forever
(she had been pulled over for speeding, but he let her go). We hurried
in and got there at 2:15 A.M. and told the nurse I was going to have the
baby fast and I wanted the epidural NOW! They seemed to think we didn't
know what we were talking about and continued to ask a thousand
questions while I was dying in pain every contraction. When she checked
me I was at an 8 and my water broke. They just kept telling me to take
deep breaths but it was impossible. I've never felt pain like that. I
couldn't see straight, I couldn't focus on anything. I didn't understand
what anyone was saying. Andy didn't know what to do so I was actually
holding a nurses hand instead of his. haha. Finally a nurse came and
started to help me do hee hee hoo breathing and counting with me which
was the most helpful thing anyone did. The anesthesiologist finally
showed up and I rolled over on my side. He did the lidocaine and then
told me not to push while he inserted the needle. I screamed that I
couldn't hold it and had to push and the baby just flew out of me at
2:48 A.M. (total relief that push was). She just plopped on the bed and
the nurses were like "Um...baby is out!" They said that the
anesthesiologist packed his cart up so fast and got out of there. We
named her Holland Jade Flygare. She weighed 6 Lb. 15 Oz. and was 20
inches long with a head FULL of long black hair! She was amazing and
perfect and HUNGRY. She started nursing almost immediately. Once we were
all settled in Andy went home to take care of the boys. Later that
morning he brought them to meet their new baby sister. The first thing
Owen said was "Her head is so tiny! And her nose is so tiny." They were
so in love. The only bad thing was that Andy and the boys all got sick
the week before I had her so everyone had to wear masks and keep
distance. I was so nervous she would get something bad. Luckily it all
passed and she was ok.
